Ævum Santa Cruz

The commission

Ævum is an exercise in material honesty, handcraft, and enduring design — a space that is at once resilient and intimate. The interior balances warmth with restraint: pickled white oak lines the walls and cabinetry as a soft, tactile foundation, while matte gray-veined quartz countertops bring a calm, durable surface. Chevron mosaic tile runs across the contoured shower walls and floor, marrying utility with pattern and texture.

Salvaged black walnut from a client’s private collection serves as a rich, grounding accent, while woolen C&C Milano Quadro pillows in sage rest against Pierre Frey celadon upholstery. All fabrication was carried out in-house, start to finish. Ævum takes its name from the Latin for an age — an interval long enough to hold a life, and a space built as a meditation on time, materiality, and sustained attention.
